Professional Editing & Ghostwriting
Services
Ghostwriting
You can read more about this service on my ghostwriting page, but I'll cover some of the basic fees and expectations here.
I charge on a per-word basis, the amount of which differs based upon necessary research, length, and timeline. The range varies from $0.11 to $0.35 per word.
I expect a detailed outline, with character sketches and setting details ready before the commencement of writing. You can expect timely chapter-by-chapter updates and the ability to revise each chapter once during the writing process, as well as the knowledge that I'm on deadline through the Pacemaker website, which tracks my word count per day.
Developmental Ghostwriting
This is a unique service and the most popular one I offer that allows you to send me your finished manuscript, which I will then evaluate and edit—with the additional service of writing any passage/chapter/scene that we agree will make your story the best it can be.
I often get asked for this service after editing and evaluating manuscripts. Authors see where their work can be improved upon but would like the additional material written by a professional who has experience with their writing style and voice.
This service costs a base fee of $0.05 and includes an evaluation, edit, and developmental ghostwrite.
Evaluation
An evaluation can tell you the strengths and weaknesses of your novel, where the plot holes are, as well as how best to improve the manuscript as a whole. As an Associate Editor of a literary magazine, I spend a lot of time decided which submissions to publish and how to make them stronger; my evaluation will essentially be offering the same service, except within the larger scope of novel-length manuscripts.
My evaluations range from 10-20 pages and cover characters, setting, plot points, and authorial voice/style. The cost for this service is a flat fee of $500 for manuscripts over 60,000 words and $750 for manuscripts over 90,000 words.
Coaching
A writing coach can be invaluable. Whether you are an established writer or one who is just starting out, a writing coach can help you streamline your narrative, iron out the kinks, and aid you in producing a clear and concise novel. Often confused with developmental editing, a writing coach doesn't edit or revise your work, we simply serve as guides to help you reach your publishing goals. learn more about this service on the Coaching page.
Manuscript Edit
This service is your basic manuscript edit; costs may vary based upon depth of edit needed. If your manuscript has been drafted into a version close to its final draft, the edit will cost less than a manuscript that still needs a lot of work. During my complimentary sample edit, I'll determine the level of editing that I feel is best for the manuscript (and don't worry, I like to work on polished manuscripts and will not charge an in-depth edit price for a well-written and mostly correct manuscript!).
The different levels of editing are developmental, with a base fee of $0.035, line-edit, with a base fee of $0.028, and a proofread, with a base fee of $0.020.
